Nestled in the Mascoma
River Valley near the river's
headwaters is the newest art venue in the Upper Valley Region. Conceived 10 years ago, Giovanna Lepore painter and director
of the Gallery wanted a venue for exceptional under exhibited artists , architects, sculptures and photographers many of whom
have a job out side their creative endeavor. Slowly the gallery and future art
school evolved first by renovating the 1860 farmhouse to accommodate the artists and secondly recruiting and searching for
artists. Lepore's partner Dave Giffin worked along side Lepore with his three sons to help renovate the building. At every
turn in the process there was another obstacle, in sufficient beams carrying the load, a new septic system after the old one
failed, a roof that leaked. Lepore reminisces'," I had to keep thinking this is about process just like creating art, and
to face challenges on the way knowing that more than anything persistence pays". Dave's sons worked on the weekends his son
Mike helping to move walls , haul away debris, and repair the leaky roof before he was deployed to South
Korea stationed at Fort Casey. Son Matt, who was finishing up graduate school in architecture at Norwich University,
contributed with design ideas and muscle laying down floors and assembling beams. Youngest son Don whose talent is problem
solving in dealing with unsquare buildings, measured , cut and built cabinets, floors, sheet walled , and installed energy
efficient windows. After two years of weekend construction (all involved had full time jobs) the Galleria Giovanna Fine Art
opened it 's doors in June of 2009 with the show "Periphery".
three painters, Carolyn Bardos, John Abrahamsen and Giovanna Lepore as well as sculptor Sherlie Dayton and photographer
Diane D'Amato exhibited their work in this successful show with more than forty visitors and vigorous sales.
